Description

Joseph Hoover: An Underappreciated American Printmaker.

Joseph Hoover was one of the largest American frameable print publishers of the nineteenth century.  His work is well known for the still widely available, inexpensive “popular” chromolithographs, but he produced a much more varies and high-quality output.  This paper traces his history as a printmaker, with an emphasis on the rare and beautiful chromolithographs that previously have not received the attention they warrant.
