The Currier & Ives firm produced prints starting at a time when the American West was a relatively unknown and exotic frontier and continuing through the age when it became a sublime tourist destination.  Throughout this entire period, the West was a subject of great interest to Americans, so Currier & Ives produced prints on the topic that both reflected and helped shaped the public’s image of the American West.  This paper examines the history of those prints.
